In June 2023, we took off into a cosmic fever dream of animal liberation as we recorded our radio adaptation of ‘The Triumph of Agriculture’.
‘The Triumph of Agriculture’ (1933), is a long, dramatic poem by the Soviet poet Nikolai Zabolotsky.
Our adaptation is based on a 2006 abridged translation by Eugene Ostashevsky (featuered in OBERIU: An Anthology of Russian Absurdism, Northwestern University Press).
The piece was previewed at a special event at The Lyric Theatre (Bridport) on November 24 2023.
Alongside the preview, we also released a new limited-edition booklet - a field guide to the poem - featuring original responses from leading scholars of Russian poetry, and from contemporary artists.
Stay tuned for more updates on the project’s release.
Purchase the booklet at Pushkin House Bookshop
We’re really happy to have our special edition booklet now stocked in the wonderful Pushkin House Bookshop, an independent bookshop in London specialising in the culture of Russia, Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia.
Alongside the radio dramatisation, we published this limited-edition field guide to the poem featuring original responses from academics and contemporary artists. With contributions from Darra Goldstein, Irene Masing-Delic, Sarah Pratt and Eugene Ostashevksy, these essays show how Nikolai Zabolotsky’s cosmic vision of human and animal liberation continues to provoke and inspire in the 21st century.
